‘Walnut Tree’ to hold photo exhibition

‘Walnut Tree’, a feature film by Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian, is to hold photo exhibition concurrent with the 33rd anniversary of Sardasht chemical attack.  

The opening ceremony of the photo collection of the movie, which was photographed by Majid Talebi, will be held on Sunday, June 28 at the Iranian Artists Forum with the participation of the film’s crew and cinema artists.  

The event will be held to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Chemical Bombing of Sardasht and to pay tribute to the victims.

The Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein attacked Sardasht, in West Azerbaijan province, in northwestern Iran, with chemical weapons in 1987, making Sardasht one of the first cities in the world to be targeted by weapons of mass destruction.

The chemical attack on Sardasht left at least 110 people killed, and 5,000 others injured, many receiving serious life-threatening injuries.

Based on a true story, ‘Walnut Tree’ is a film about the chemical bombings of a region in northwestern Iran by the US-backed former Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein.

Written by Ebrahim Amini and Hossein Hassani, ‘The Walnut Tree’ enjoys famous Iranian actors Peyman Maadi, Mina Sadati and Mehran Modiri.

The film participated at the 38th Fajr Film Festival in February 2020 and garnered Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director awards.
